Duchess of Rutland in front of Belvoir Castle

Belvoir Castle & Capability Brown: Discovering a Lost Landscape with Duchess of Rutland

$15/10 mbrs. (discounted price will display for members upon login)

Presented with the Key West Garden Club

The Studios is graced with its first royal visit thanks to the Key West Garden Club. Emma Manners, the 11th Duchess of Rutland speaks about her experience taking charge of Belvoir Castle, a fairy-tale castle in the English countryside, which had sat dormant since WWII. Specifically, Manners discusses the restoration of the landscape utilizing long-lost plans drafted by Lancelot “Capability” Brown in 1780. Her commitment to realize one of the most radical designs of Brown’s career has resulted in a landscape that is now regarded as a great masterpiece. In 2016 Belvoir opened the restored areas of the estate to the public – never seen before were stunning views and vistas that Capability had planned for Belvoir over 250 years ago. Her work was commemorated in a documentary and book, “Capability Brown & Belvoir – Discovering a Lost Landscape.”
