Programs for Kids & Teens

They say everyone’s born an artist; most people just forget somewhere along the way. With a galaxy of programs for young people, The Studios provides creative experiences and learning opportunities designed to last a lifetime.

SCHOOLS AT THE STUDIOS

All year long, our galleries are transformed into living classrooms as elementary and middle school students not only visit the exhibitions, but meet the artists who made them possible! Our experienced artist educator Bria Ansara designs custom lesson plans for each visit, meeting with our exhibiting and resident artists, and ending with hands on activities to build skills and deepen their understanding.

Launched in partnership with the May Sands Montessori School, with support from the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys. and the Florida Keys Council of the Arts “Artists in Schools” grant.

BOOKS & BOOKS SCHOOL YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD

With the help of a select group of “junior editors” grade 6-12 from schools across Key West, the bookstore gets expert advise from the younger set on new authors, events and what should be on our shelves. Youth Advisors write short reviews for book tags posted throughout the store and help promote book events for kids and families.

KEY WEST HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB - BUBBA'S FABLES & MORE

The Studios is thrilled to provide a regular home to members of the Key West High School Drama Club, under the leadership of the inimitable Juliet Gray. Over four weekends throughout the year we join forces to co-present Bubba’s Fables in Truman Waterfront Park, a series of classic Aesop stories perfect for small children filled with Key West characters. We’re also excited to host both the Drama Club’s spectacular Spring Musical and Holiday Review!

In partnership with Fleming Street Faith Center and made possible by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys. Additional support for Bubba’s Fables from the Florida Keys Council for the Arts “Art Builds Community” grant.

SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS

With different teachers, different themes and different materials to explore each week, the summer doldrums don’t stand a chance at our annual summer art camps. Professional artists and educators lead the way with innovative curricula, field trips and fun. Details on any camps are posted on the website by spring. Local parents know it can be hard to fill the days when school’s out, and we’re here to help. Ask about our scholarships!

In the summers, we partner with Fringe Theatre to present Bravo Theatre camp.

YOUTH ARTS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Each year we hand-pick a small number of high achieving high school artists for one-on-one mentoring by professional artists to get them ready for college and beyond. Youth Arts Fellows also benefit from free access to Studios classes and events and other pre-professional support.

Made possible by the Marion Stevens Fund.
