HOUSE QUILTS: THE ENERGY THAT SPEAKS OF HOME

MICHAEL ROSS

Sanger Gallery

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

This exhibition is an exploration of Ross’s fascination with how we alter, affect and influence the energy of the places we call home. He explores the notions of movement and migration, how much of ourselves to we leave in places we vacate, and the how much we bring with us along the way.

Michael Ross is an artist who explores notions of how the human body and spirit can possibly influence and alter architectural spaces. He questions whether we believe that the presence of people only contribute to the wear and depletion of built structures over a period of time, or if, in fact, the combination of human breath, energy and spirit are crucial to the resilience and sustainability of houses and buildings even beyond the necessary maintenance and repair.

Ross was born in Laurel, Mississippi. He obtained a bachelors degree in painting from The University of Mississippi and a Masters degree in drawing from Northern Illinois University. He spent more than two decades living in San Francisco, California and he has now returned to live in the Southeastern United States.
