Summer Solstice Plein Air Watercolor Workshop

Susan Sugar

Tuesday-Friday, July 9, 10, 11 & 12

6-9pm

Ft. Zachary Taylor State Park

$275, $225 mbrs.

Through plein air painting, discover what moves you most and how to make your mark based on the adventure of seeing, guided by a popular instructor, New York/Key West artist Susan Sugar. Each evening begins with a group critique with the goal of becoming comfortable sharing your process with other painters. After the group critique, students disperse to paint on their own while Susan circulates from person to person, offering individual counsel, as needed.

The workshop culminates with a final critique and potluck at Sugar’s home/studio Turtle House and an exhibition of student work hosted by The Studios of Key West at a later date.

Susan Sugar paints the skies most people never appreciate or see: tumultuous, moody, dawn skies. For the past 14 years she has focused on the sea and sky off the coast of Key West, capturing moments and the poetry of place. With a background in dance and architecture, she interprets life in terms of rhythm, space, and light, recreating what she sees with her brush.

Sugar has a degree in Dance and Theater from George Washington University in Washington DC. Following this, she studied at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture with Graham Nickson and Mathew Radford. New York City has been home since 1979. She has exhibited in NYC, as well as Martha’s Vineyard, the Hamptons, and Key West.
