Faces of Old Key West 1918

Richard McGarry

Opens Thu Feb 1, 6-8pm

On view February 1-29, 2024

XOJ Gallery

A collection of portrait paintings and personal histories of ordinary and mostly forgotten Key West men and women of a hundred years ago, based on their World War I Navy waterfront pass photos.

The depth of McGarry’s research is impressive. His art uncovers the stories of people from prominent citizens to young telegraph boys, portraying Key West as a hub of industry, a bustling town. His love for the community shines through the paintings.
