Climate Optimism Ritual

Becca McCharen

Tuesday, March 5, 5:30-7:30pm

White Street Pier, Higgs Beach

Free, kindly RSVP below

Becca McCharen, founder of the inclusive, future-forward swimwear label Chromat, leads a ritual encouraging participants to embrace climate optimism and shift the narrative to one motivated by hope that creates positive momentum. Participants will create floral bouquets as offerings to the water and will be introduced to the ecofeminist poetry of Lucille Clifton. Join us for a mutual dreaming session on the future of our environment and community in Key West.

McCharen recently scaled back her role in the fashion world to focus on fiber art through sustainable quilt making. “I genuinely feel that we all need to be up-cycling… We need as a society to change the flow of consumerism and start reusing things.” As an artist in residence at the Studios of Key West, McCharen is creating a series of water devotionals and queer archives through the ancestral medium of quilting.
