This course traces the origins of the movement from poetry and fiction of the 1920s and 30s, and highlights Surrealism’s impact on popular culture by examining literature, music, comedy and most importantly advertising: the home of surrealism today.

Through weekly explorations, students will attain an awareness that the movement is not an historical academic method, but a vehicle for new ways of living—in short, a way of seeing that is very much present in contemporary life , especially through the recent pandemic.
