Create artwork using the traditional monochrome ink washing techniques (Sumi-e). East Asian painting and writing developed in ancient China some 2,000 years ago, and has always focused on the quality of the line, the beauty of each individual stroke of the brush. Sakagami introduces the Sumi-e technique to students by not only teaching the brush strokes, but also the philosophy and rich history of the art.
