The Play Project brings New York and Key West together for a behind the scenes glimpse into how theater is made.

The brainchild of director Murphy Davis and playwright Wendy Hammond, the project brings a seasoned playwright, director and equity actors from New York to collaborate with actors and audiences from Key West.

“Coming Up for Air” is a new script by Cassandra Medley. The story centers on Joyce Mitchell, an African-American elementary school science teacher from a small town in northern Ohio, who suddenly finds herself becoming an environmental activist. Her newfound courage threatens her life-long and trusted relationship with the rest of her family.

Tony winning actress Tonya Pinkins (Jelly’s Last Jam, Caroline, or Change) joins this year’s Play Project cast!

Pinkins is an American television, film and theater actress known for her roles on Broadway and as Livia on All My Children.
