PEAR PROFILE

The artists who put “studios” in The Studios of Key West are a select group representing the best of our island’s creative spirit. They are painters, photographers, designers, craft artists and more, breathing life into our community from their work spaces on the 3rd floor at 533 Eaton Street.

Open Studios events, which are held monthly, are lively evenings that spur an ongoing creative dialogue, and to allow artists to share their work and ideas with the community.

Emerging, mid-career, and established Florida Keys artists are invited to apply through an open call when it is announced that there is available space; selection is made by a panel of current advisory board members, staff, and representatives from the Key West art community.

Studio spaces at 533 Eaton Street are currently filled.  Interested in hearing about any openings? Place your name on a notification list. We’ll send an email when studios become available.

PEAR PROFILE

Ransome is a mixed-media artist whose work reclaims the power of family, memory, and cultural heritage through layered compositions. Drawing on materials such as vintage paper, textiles, and found objects, his work evokes the storytelling traditions of the African American South. His collage portraits and abstract forms often explore themes of identity, migration, and the echoes of ancestral history.

Raised in North Carolina and now based in New York, Ransome received his MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design and has exhibited nationally in galleries and museums. His practice is deeply rooted in honoring the untold stories of everyday Black life, combining a painter’s intuition with the layered richness of quilting and folk traditions.

A former educator and graphic designer, Ransome brings a strong sense of narrative and visual rhythm to his work. As a PEAR alum, he continues to expand his creative practice while engaging in conversations around art, history, and representation.
