Jeffrey Cardenas travels from Polynesia to the Mediterranean and Caribbean Sea, photographing vibrant coral reef ecosystems. Cardenas reveals the beauty and essential role of coral reefs in supporting diverse marine life, prompting reflection on their significance and the urgent need for their conservation.
Jeffrey Cardenas is a long-time Key West resident and South Florida native. He has spent his life on and around tropical saltwater. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Photojournalism. He has worked as both a writer and photographer, and his work has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers, including the New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Time, Outside, and Playboy.
As a feature writer and photographer, Jeffrey produced in-depth projects for the Fort Myers News-Press and Gannett News Service. He received several Green Eye Shade Awards and a nomination by the News-Press in 1980 for the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting for his series of articles about the Mariel Cuba Boatlift. Jeffrey is of Cuban origin; his paternal grandfather was born in Villa Clara.
