About the Concerts
Mary Gauthier comes to The Studios as an Artist in Residence this season, with a new book and recent GRAMMY Award-nominated album in hand. Gauthier has made a career of sharing the redemptive power of music through her live shows, Master Classes and a TED Talk. Gauthier will be joined by Jaimee Harris, a Texas-raised folk n’ roll singer, songwriter and criminal justice reform activist.
Mary Gauthier
The Associated Press named Mary Gauthier as one of the best songwriters of her generation. Her most recent release, 2018’s Rifles & Rosary Beads (a collection of songs co-written with wounded veterans) was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Folk Album and Record of the Year by the Americana Music Association. The UK Americana Association named Mary International Artist of the Year, and Folk Alliance International named Rifles & Rosary Beads Record of the Year.
Mary’s songs have been recorded by dozens of artists, including Jimmy Buffett, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Boy George, Bettye Lavette, Mike Farris, Kathy Mattea, Bobby Bare, Amy Helm and Candi Staton, and have appeared extensively in Film and Television, most recently on Paramount Network’s Yellowstone.
Saved by a Song is Mary’s first book. Rolling Stone called it, “A must-read book for a crummy year!” “The Grammy-Nominated songwriter dissects her brutally honest songs and preaches the “magnificence of empathy” in a memoir that is just right for 2021.” You can get a copy of Mary’s book on her website.
