Artists will work expressively and consider mark making and textural exploration as they discover the sculpture within the ceramic medium. There will be an option to work realistically or more abstracted. Students are encouraged to sketch ideas prior to class in order to talk with the instructor about possible solutions for a successful project. Our finished work will result in sculptural heads approximately 12-14” in height.

In Latin American cultures, the tree of life is a traditional folk art symbol that represents life, renewal, and family. In this class, we will take inspiration from this beautiful form and learn to build an artistic, functional candelabra. Students will use the coil building and pinching method to create this sculpture, and customization in encouraged. Think outside the box and make your project zany, personal, or tropical.
