MARCH EXHIBITIONS AT THE STUDIOS

Opens Thursday, March 7, 6-8pm
On view March 7-28, 2024

Friends new and old are invited to join us for this month’s First Thursday Open House event, when we keep our lights on late and throw our doors open to celebrate the newest work in our galleries. Stop in to say hello, relax with a glass of wine on the rooftop terrace while Studios favorite Zoë Lewis plays live music, tour the third floor artist studios and see the just-installed exhibitions in the Sanger, XOJ, Zabar Project and Zabar Lobby Galleries. Books & Books is the next stop, where you can browse the latest titles and catch up with old friends.

Vessel Series: I’mmigration

Lauren P McAloon

Sanger Gallery

Ask any local creative whose work they respect most, and they’re likely to name Lauren McAloon. The longtime sculptor – known for her exquisitely balanced compositions using found materials, wood, metal and ceramics – is enjoying a period of explosive creativity. The abstracted shapes of boats are a recurring theme, evoking both the near universality of immigration stories in our backgrounds and a scorching critique of historical and contemporary politics, in which so many have made such dangerous crossings.

Happy?

Dan Bar

Zabar Project Gallery

At first glance, the canvases are filled with what appear to be brightly colored shapes. Upon further inspection we notice cartoon-like creatures, in constant pursuit of each other.
