“The materials I choose to use in my work are intrinsic to the core of my subject matter. I cannot tell my artful stories about our remaining fragile environments and the impact of human sprawl without my everyday practice of reusing materials to prevent unnecessary waste and consumption. The artworks in Deer Humans are made from reclaimed materials such as industrial wood, shredded documents, produce netting and security envelopes.”

Approximately 100 Key Deer were hurt or killed by cars last year, and are further threatened by loss of habitat, hurricanes, Screwworm disease, and weakening of the Endangered Species Act. Watson has taken their plight to heart, with a series of work made from reclaimed materials depicting the Keys’ native deer and wildscapes.

20% of sales from Deer Humans, will be donated to the Florida Keys Wildlife Society.
