Key West is known for a lot of things – sapphire water, chilled key lime pie and, perhaps above all else, live music. It’s nearly impossible to walk more than a block or two in Old Town without hearing a singer-songwriter belt it out from an outdoor bar, or simply someone strumming a guitar on their front porch. It’s the beat of the island, or as De Palma puts it, The Soul of Key West.
For well over a decade, De Palma has been documenting the musicians of Key West. He’s noticed that there has been a “changing of the guard” in the music scene lately. New licks and riffs will be played, new music will be produced and recorded, new stars will shine brightly. Explore the change, and the legacy, through DePalma’s richly textured photography.
