Friends new and old are invited to join us for this month’s First Thursday Open House event, when we keep our lights on late and throw our doors open to celebrate the newest work in our galleries. Stop in to say hello, relax with a glass of wine on the rooftop terrace while Ben Pegg and Tory Mata perform live music, tour the third floor artist studios and see the just-installed exhibitions in the Sanger, XOJ, Zabar Project and Zabar Lobby Galleries. Books & Books is the next stop, where you can browse the latest titles and catch up with old friends.
The Studios also extends a warm invitation to the community to tour the newly renovated PEAR House during the First Thursday event. Located at 529 Eaton Street, adjacent to The Studios’ flagship building, the PEAR House, formerly known as the Carriage Trade, underwent a transformative renovation over the last 18 months, after being acquired by The Studios in 2018. The PEAR House is now the proud home of the Peyton Evans Artist Residency (PEAR) program. The February 1 event offers a chance to learn about the property’s rich history, to explore the revitalized space, and meet the current residency artists.
Marks’ latest body of work from the pandemic to the present reflects a period of silence and self-reflection. Drawing on her astounding collection of antique ephemera, paired with carefully constructed abstracted forms, she comments on life through her practice of Buddhism.
“As a Buddhist, I am aware that I will never reach emptiness, but the journey through my work whispers to me, ‘You have so much more to accomplish in this lifetime.’” —Roberta B. Marks

Connors’ oil paintings capture the feel of Key West through the moments she glimpses: people at the corner ice cream joint; angels at the cemetery; bikes, boats, dogs and their walkers; palms, bananas, pools and patios.

The Anne McKee Artists Fund is dedicated to the concept of “artists helping artists”. Preview a number of works by well-known local artists, and be sure to attend the auction on February 9!
