Margo Ellis and Gayle Antonides, two Florida Keys artists, share their quilting-inspired techniques through fiber art and sculpture. Shown together, the craftsmanship of both artists is highlighted. In Ellis’s works, you see the intricate quilting through patterned seams and layered fabrics, and Antonides’s works explore new ways to embody patchwork through clay, basket weaving, high fire metal wire and bead work.
Margo Ellis has been quilting and playing with fabric for over 50 years. She exhibits and travels widely for craft fairs and teaches classes to quilters. Her recent works depict the seascapes, flora, fauna and other island subjects on her walks to White Street Pier.
Gayle Antonides is a recent graduate of FAMU. Through a grant from the Anne McKee Fund, she is exploring her admiration for traditional craftwork and folk art through hand-glazed dishes, beaded metal, and quilting-inspired sculpture.
