Self-taught artist Siegert utilizes her background in art therapy and social work to mine traditional figure and portraiture for glimmers of emotional depth and intimacy. Her acrylic and charcoal works capture the inner voice of her female subjects.

FROM THE ARTIST:

My education and former work experience had a profound impact on the way I look at art and the way I create my own art. The way I try to capture emotions is usually through the gaze. I look at the eyes as a way to tell a story and to engage the viewer without words. An overarching theme I find in all of my artwork is the depiction of strength and vulnerability — if possible at the same time. To me, those features are not contradictory, they go hand in hand.
