21 PILLOWS

CHERYL WILSON SMITH

OPENING: FIRST THURSDAY JAN 5, 6-8PM

Sanger Gallery

organized and circulated by Thunder Bay Art Gallery with assistance from The Canada Council for the Arts and Ontario Arts Council, sponsored by M. Stratton Architecture

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

Atmospheric nature sounds from the Boreal forest fill the gallery in January, where the floor is covered with islands of pillows nestling clusters of stone-like glass sculptures. Visitors are invited to explore, touch and rearrange the rocks, a gentle metaphor for the fragility and vicissitudes of nature, and of the impact we have on it as humans. Wilson-Smith divides her time between the Keys and northwest Ontario, contrasting environments that both find their reflection here.
