Works and Words concentrates on concepts pertaining to “why we work”, “how we work” and the results we aim for as artists. Creative and engaging discussion is generated by assignments, critique and slide lectures. Work will be done in each individual’s studio or home and discussed online via Zoom each week.

Roberta Marks is a noted Key West artist who works in sculpture, mixed-media, painting, and collage. She has shown in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad, including the Smithsonian Institution and Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She has lectured in University settings here and in Europe, and is represented in Key West by the Lucky Street Gallery.

Tech Housekeeping

1. Please sign up for a free Zoom account before your first session and familiarize yourself with how to join a meeting.

2. You will receive a link to join the meeting in your automatic email and a reminder 15 minutes before the session.

3. Run order:

  • Class opens with a 30-45 minute discussion on a topic Marks decides on.
  • Marks distributes & explains the next week’s assignment – short discussion
  • Critique begins with current assignment – entire class participating
  • Class ends

Supply List

1. Assignments will include painting, collage, mixed media.

2. Supplies will be collected for each medium. Found objects will be utilized for collage/mixed media.

3. Each student is required to have a journal to express their thoughts.
