Class Description
Local artist Thurber is preserving a traditional art form—one with deep roots in Cayo Hueso. This workshop offers a very rare opportunity to learn the basics of woodcut relief from someone who’s mastered the form. Go from pencil drawing to carved wood relief, telling Key West stories.
Meet Your Instructor
Working in a wide range of media, Andy’s gaze is storied. “I look for the crust in life. I look for the flavor.” says Andy Thurber who has a knack for capturing the true essence of what it’s like to be a part of the Keys community or what he calls “Conch Life”. My sleepy little conch town has evolved and my work sings about a by gone era. I delight in depicting the Island’s zany characters and places.
