The Studios of Key West is celebrating the visions and dreams of 20 Take Stock in Children (TSiC) students.  Portraits of the students by Mike Marrero show their eagerness to take responsibility for their own lives and futures.  The stories about the students, their families and mentors depict their visions for themselves.  The opening reception is on April 18, 2013 at 6 p.m. and the exhibition runs continuously through May 10, 2013 in the main hall.

“This is the first collaborative venture between the Studios and the Monroe County Education Foundation,” according to Jed Dodds,  Executive Director of the Studios.  “We are very proud to honor Take Stock in Children, the work of our local students and all the Take Stock mentors and donors.”  Dodds continued, “Our organization has been looking for projects which connect the Studios with the greater Keys community; this exhibition does just that.”

“With this exhibition, we are celebrating our 13th year, offering ‘Scholarships, Mentors, & Hope’ to over 600 Monroe students who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to matriculate and graduate from college,” explained Leslie Holmes, TSiC county coordinator.  “The portraits and stories are a moving tribute to their desires to achieve success.”

“This exhibition honors all of our extraordinary mentors and donors who make these scholarship opportunities possible,” explained John Padget,  President of the Monroe County Education Foundation, the organization that oversees the TSiC program in Monroe County.

“Our job is to break the cycle of low family income through education, one child at a time, and we’re doing it with great students, mentors and donors,”  Padget concluded.  “This exhibit will travel to the Middle and Upper Keys in May and June, for the benefit of the Take Stock family in those communities.”
