Unlearning Racism: A workshop for women who benefit from white privilege interested in exploring their role in racial justice and social change. This space will offer an opportunity for collective learning and personal growth. Come ready to listen deeply, to share, and to walk away with concrete action steps.
The facilitator asks that this particular workshop space be held for women to be in community together. As we consider the intersectional nature of racism, it can be powerful for women to unpack our dynamics in our own supportive space. She respectfully and gratefully asks interested participants to honor this request.
Sophie Chambers is a community organizer in Western MA with Showing Up for Racial Justice, a nation-wide grassroots organization that mobilizes white people in the work to dismantle white supremacy. She received a Bachelor’s in Peace and Conflict Studies from Vassar College and a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, where she was a co-founder of the Anti-Oppression Work Group, a group of students who organize to bring anti-oppression conversations and content to the social work master’s program. She loves dark chocolate, the smell of wood smoke and summer bike rides.
Please bring something to write in. The workshop is not writing intensive, but it will be helpful for a couple of the activities if people have their own notebook to jot things down.
