TSKW Volunteer of the Year
The Studios of Key West recognizes Bryan Buckley as the 2010 Volunteer of the year. Bryan will be acknowledged at the January 22 Unsung Heroes/Volunteer of the Year Luncheon by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys.
CFFK’s much anticipated “Unsung Heroes” Luncheons are happy occasions, paying proud tribute to the work of scores of volunteers throughout the Keys. Many Monroe County 501(c)(3) organizations nominate their Volunteer of the Year and attend the luncheon where these Unsung Heroes are presented with a Certificate of Recognition.
Bryan’s many talents and skills help keep the Armory facilities running smoothly – and he has put in many hours over the past year helping with special projects.
Most recently, Bryan helped ready the 43 art bikes included in the Key West Cruisers: Rolling on the Rock Bike project. Bryan spent time over the course of several weeks priming the bikes, and preparing them to be used as unique artist canvases.
Bryan has become a fixture around the Armory campus, and he is always eager to lend a helping hand.
Bryan has a fine arts degree from Iowa State University, and enjoys photography – and he uses this skill to capture daily life around the Armory. From Walk on White nights to concerts and exhibition installations and receptions, you can often find Bryan at the other end of the camera.
Bryan is also an award winning artist at TSKW- having been awarded a 1st place ribbon by juror Priscilla Coote during this year’s Art Crawl “Plein air competition”.
Bryan knows South Florida well, having graduated from high school in Miami. During the ten years he spent in the Army he traveled the world, and was stationed for a time in Germany and Egypt.
His life history is colorful and diverse. Among other things he’s owned a small antique store in Iowa, served on a town City Council, and worked as park ranger at Mt. Rushmore and Joshua Tree.
TSKW is lucky to have someone as talented, handy, and friendly as Bryan – he has made himself irreplaceable!
