Window Wonderlands & Fantasy Floats has Key West treasure Ann Lorraine transforming the second floor gallery just as she transformed the windows of Fast Buck Freddie’s for 23 years of iconic and unforgettable displays. Freddie the Frog greets visitors at the top of the stairs. Oversized tropical birds, an alligator with glowing eyes, and a family of manatees hang from the ceiling, and the walls are covered with tongue-in-cheek paintings drawn from Old Masters and romance novels. Lorraine says her goal is “to share all of this with as many people as possible,” so the exhibition is not just a final peek at an amazing chapter of Key West history, but a chance to take a piece home with you!
In the Main Hall downstairs, Emerge: TSKW Studio Artists and Invitees is on display through October 11. Each of TSKW’s year-round studio artists were invited to submit 1-2 pieces of their own, and to invite an artist from outside to join in as well. Balanced abstractions by Debra Yates and fiber artist Claire Perrault join whimsical pieces by hatmaker Judi Bradford, self-taught conch Andy Thurber and a boisterous still-life by Pamela Hobbs. Plus fashion, writing, manga, and more!
Artists included in Emerge include: Jessica Argyle, Katie Argyle, ‘Chel‘ Michele Atkinson, Joshua Baldwin, Joel Biddle, Judi Bradford, Benjamin Burle, Tayler Bryan, Christine Fifer, Wayne Garcia, Jeffrey Harwell, Mark Hedden, Pam Hobbs, Alan G. Kennish, Lauren P. McAloon, Dana McClure, Claire Perrault, Michael A. Philip, Marky Pierson, Maggie Ruley, Danette Baso Silvers, Bianca ‘BiBo’ Boza, Sherry Sweet T, Andy Thurber, Maureen Tracy Venti, Dahlia Woods, Debra Yates, and Corryn Leigh Young.
A brief series of readings and performances take place at 7pm, including selections read by Jonathan Woods, Jessica Argyle, Brooks Whitney Phillips, and Nance Boylan, Maureen Tracy Venti, and musicians from Robin Kaplan’s Music Room.
