From left: Elizabeth King and Emily Sherman
This is the inaugural summer for the TSKW internship program, and we are so thrilled to have the bright young talent and enthusiasm of Elizabeth King and Emily Sherman, our first official interns. Elizabeth is studying Art History and African Studies at the University of Florida and Emily attends the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota.
Elizabeth grew up in Key West and is developing a solid background many aspects of arts administration. She has volunteered at the Harn Museum of Art at the U of F, where she taught children’s programs that complemented the museum collections, helped with the coordination and set up of monthly museum nights, and served as a guide to help familiarize visitors with the museum. The Armory was already a very familiar place to Elizabeth; she says she practically spent her childhood here and never missed one of the gymnastics classes that used to be held in the main hall. Elizabeth has begun her time at TSKW by learning about marketing and media relations, from information management, to updating the website, to sending out special news alerts and invitations to events. Elizabeth’s experience, efficiency, and friendliness will be invaluable this summer as she helps to coordinate the One Night Stand project on August 7.
Emily is a Sophomore majoring in the applicable field of Graphic Design, although her true passion is simply working with any medium making art. From painting bikes to canvases, she has the true appreciation of the Key West spirit already ingrained from visiting the island over the last 5 years with her parents, who have become residents a year ago and who have made Key West their primary home. Emily was an asset on the installation of the Rick Worth Retrospective exhibition in the main hall of the armory, offering many ideas and solutions. She oversaw the opening reception for the Painting Boot Camp Student Show, and sold 2 works. In addition, her smiling face may greet you on weekends, helping TSKW extend our open hours to the public. We are delighted to initiate our new internship program with the bar raised so high.
Thank you Elizabeth and Emily!
