The play’s the thing!

We hope you’ll join us at the inception of an exciting new theater project at The Studios.

The Play Project brings New York and Key West together for a behind the scenes glimpse into how theater is made. The brainchild of director Murphy Davis and playwright Wendy Hammond, the project brings a seasoned playwright, director and equity actors from New York to collaborate with actors and audiences from Key West.

Our inaugural effort features playwright Lucy Thurber, Obie award winning author of The Insurgents, Bottom of the World, and Scarcity. Ms Thurber’s newest play, Recovery, looks at intergenerational love, dysfunction and addiction in a family, and explores what it takes to choose to stay sober. For three intensive days this April the cast and creatives will rehearse the play, working together to bring to life words on a page.

On Saturday, April 23 at 7pm, you’re invited to a public reading to see and hear how the play has developed. Afterwards during the talkback, meet the cast and creatives, and let them know what struck you, and what stood out to you most about what you’ve seen.

The Play Project is made possible by Blake Hunter

* We are opening the very first rehearsal and read-through of the play (Wed, Apr 20 at 7pm) to a limited group of theater enthusiasts, if you would like to be among them, please email elena@tskw.org to check availability.
