Learn to capture the light at day’s end, surrounded by sea and sky at sunset. Through painting demonstrations at the beach and one-on-one instruction, popular Key West-New York artist Susan Sugar fosters new ways of seeing. Enjoy the adventure of recording the fleeting light and shifting moods at dusk. Open to all levels, although some experience with watercolor is helpful. Concludes with a celebration and final critique at Sugar’s Turtle House Studio.
Susan Sugar paints the skies most people never appreciate or see: tumultuous, moody, dawn skies. For the past 14 years she has focused on the sea and sky off the coast of Key West, capturing moments and the poetry of place. With a background in dance and architecture, she interprets life in terms of rhythm, space, and light, recreating what she sees with her brush.
Sugar has a degree in Dance and Theater from George Washington University in Washington DC. Following this, she studied at the New York Studio School of Drawing Painting and Sculpture with Graham Nickson and Mathew Radford.
New York City has been home since 1979. She has exhibited in NYC, as well as Martha’s Vineyard, the Hamptons, and Key West.
