Welcome summer with this plein air class – a perennial favorite.
Susan Sugar paints the skies most people never appreciate or see: tumultuous, moody, dawn skies. For the past 14 years she has focused on the sea and sky off the coast of Key West, capturing moments and the poetry of place. With a background in dance and architecture, she interprets life in terms of rhythm, space, and light, recreating what she sees with her brush.
Sugar’s annual plein aire class offers students that chance to leap without fear of falling, while discovering new visions of the scenes we see every day. The workshop culminates with a student exhibition at The Studios and a special critique in Sugar’s creative sanctuary, The Turtle House.
Sugar has a degree in Dance and Theater from George Washington University in Washington DC. Following this, she studied at the New York Studio School of Drawing Painting and Sculpture with Graham Nickson and Mathew Radford.
New York City has been home since 1979. She has exhibited in NYC, as well as Martha’s Vineyard, the Hamptons, and Key West.
