More about The Studios of Key West.
We will begin accepting residency applications again on January 22, 2018 for residencies falling between Oct 2018 and Aug 2019. The deadline will be May 15, 2018.
If you would like to receive a notice when the residency program is open for applications again, please leave your email address here.
Applications for residency at The Studios of Key West must now be submitted through an online application process. A $40 application fee applies to online submissions and is collected through an application portal.
Commonly asked questions:
Do you accept applications from writers, musicians, dancers, etc? Yes. When submitting an application, artists must select one of five program areas in which to apply: Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Musical Arts, and Performing Arts. The application fees for each program are the same.
Do you provide financial support? We’re sorry, we are currently unable to provide financial support for accepted artists. Please be aware that because Key West is a much desired destination, groceries, entertainment and other costs are typically higher than in other parts of the country. We ask that you budget accordingly.
If I am accepted, what time of year will my residency be scheduled?
When applying, artists select one of the three Residency Periods on offer:
If you are granted a residency, we will ask you to rank the time slots falling within that Residency Period according to preference, and will work with you to schedule your residency in a slot that is mutually agreeable. (We are unable to schedule residencies in any other Residency Period than the one to which you applied.)
How long do residencies last? Almost a full month — residencies begin on the 16th of the month and conclude on the 14th of the following month. (e.g. artists may arrive on April 16 and must depart on May 14).
How many artists apply/do you accept? Last year, approximately 235 artists applied, and 31 artists (13%) were accepted.
What will my lodgings/workspace be like?
Artists are housed in Conch cottages with combined live/work spaces. At this time, we are not able to offer separate work studios to artists. In order to help us make your stay conducive to good work as possible, you must describe as clearly as possible what your space and living requirements/limitations will be when applying. (For example, are stairs an issue for you? Is there a reason you can’t share a kitchen? Are there any elements that are essential to your work process or studio setup that we should know about?)
