Class Description

A study of the opening scenes and sequences from the Writers Guild of America’s highest-ranked screenplays/films and how to use their techniques in your own scripts.

Meet Your Instructor

Matt Flynn, The Studios’ Theater and Facilities Manager, is a New Jersey born filmmaker with an MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University where he was awarded the Dalio Family Foundation Scholarship. His primary trait is being the third of four sons of parents whose Brooklyn accents are easily detected when constructing sentences amid bursts of laughter.

Matt has worked on and off for Hal Hartley since 2010, which includes Hartley’s latest film, Ned Rifle, its successful Kickstarter Campaign and was Production Manager of Hartley’s film, Meanwhile and its successful Kickstarter Campaign. Matt’s short film, Barbacks has won festivals in New York and Seattle. MTV Networks put Barbacks under consideration for a pilot on Comedy Central and Spike TV. His comedy scripts have been finalists in the WeScreenplay, Screencraft, Cinestory, and Fresh Voices TV Writing Competitions.
