Scott Mason took up haiku in 2001 and has since claimed the top award in sixteen international competitions including those sponsored by the national haiku societies of Canada (2003, 2005, 2006), Britain (2005, 2008, 2010) and the United States (2012), plus the three most prestigious English-language haiku contests based in Japan: the Kusamakura (2009), Mainichi (2009) and Haiku International Association (2012) awards. He also won the Robert Frost Haiku Award earlier this year as well as in 2007 under its former sponsor. Since 2011 Scott has served as an associate editor with the online and print haiku journal The Heron’s Nest. His day job is co-owner of Via Vanti! — the top ZAGAT-rated restaurant in Mount Kisco, New York.
