Class Description
Love, Shakespeare is a six-week course prompting students to speak aloud Shakespeare’s sonnets—arguably the most romantic writing ever. Ericson gives participants the skill and confidence to give the Bard’s dreamy words their just due. The class emphasizes personal understanding, clarity of delivery, and the heartbeat underlying the eloquence, rather than received pronunciation or a “poetry voice.” Summon up your reckless courage and jump headlong into spoken bliss.
Featuring occasional piano accompaniment by Louis Raymond.
Meet Your Instructor
Born in Tokyo and raised globally, Shakespeare has always been at Richard Ericson’s core. At age seven—in Seoul, Korea—he congratulated legendary actor Helen Hayes on her performance there of her one-woman show, Shakespeare’s Women. She replied, “If you love something, you must do it.” Ericson has directed, produced, and coached in Hollywood, New York, Japan, and Australia, including Broadway and off-Broadway as well as regionally.
