Utilizing graphite on paper, students will explore the basic structure that underpins strong portraiture and figure drawing. The instructor will demonstrate how her knowledge of human anatomy, proportion, and value helps to create a volumetric and accurate drawing. Students will then draw, focusing on landmarks of the head for portraiture and how the relationship between the ribcage and pelvis kicks off the whole human figure. However, students are encouraged to have fun with markmaking and not to hide their own personal aesthetic—while this solid foundation is the focus, students’ own individuality is equally prized!
