Pentimenti is the underlying image in a drawing, painting, or original draft, that shows through as a result of manipulation to the top layer of a work of art.
A highly regarded educator and artist, Norman is widely considered a world-class draughtsman and printmaker. Many scholars and art historians place Norman among the most important African American printmakers and master muralists of his generation.
In 1995, Norman had his first drawing and print Retro-Survey at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Joseph Norman is a Professor of Art and former Chairman of Painting and Drawing at the University of Georgia and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI. He is also the former Founding Director of Study Abroad Latin America: Cuba, Costa Rica, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
