Carol Munder’s hauntingly beautiful photogravures are created by utilizing a classical process which may be new to many viewers. Photogravure is an intaglio printmaking process where a copper plate is coated with light-sensitive tissue and then etched, resulting in a high quality print that can reproduce the detail and continuous tones of a photograph. (Learn more about the process )
Munder’s imagery echoes the classical process, focusing on sculptural fragments and museum curiosities; images gathered from Munder’s visits to museums throughout the world. Munder exhibits widely, both nationally and internationally, and is the 2013 recipient of the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium prize.
