Beloved Key West musician Larry Smith will be showcasing his talents as composer, accompanist, and arranger for a special evening at TSKW. His eclectic program will include examples of his personal interpretations of jazz standards, his skillful accompaniment of guest singers and instrumentalists, and his prolific and artful composing abilities. Be prepared for some special surprise guests!
Larry Smith created a name for himself while living in Woodstock and New York City for high quality performances in the world of original music. The popularity of his many reincarnations put him in high demand in all aspects of music – as a bandleader, sideman, songwriter, producer, arranger, educator, and recording artist.
He’s very happy performing in Key West, which has been his home for over 10 years. Since moving to Key West, Larry has concentrated on performing material drawn from the Great American Songbook and has become “a must see” Key West entertainer. He can also be seen playing jazz or leading jam sessions where he features different entertainers. However you see it, Larry Smith has become a Key West institution.

The Village Voice calls Miss Tess and the Talkbacks the perfect instance of “Nashville meets Brooklyn”. With their honey-coated vocals and edgy prowess, it’s an apt description of the quartet. Miss Tess backs up the wry wit and 1940s glam with a solid backbone of musical talent, drawing comparisons to everyone from Patsy Cline to Tom Waits to Bette Midler.
‘Give it up or let me go’
Miss Tess and the Talkbacks
Stemming from the truest meaning of the now overused word “Americana”, the band pushes their influences into the current music scene with something totally fresh and soulfully timeless. The skilled musicianship of the quartet combined with Tess’s heartfelt songwriting and powerful stage presence creates a live experience that is more interesting and engaging then most by popular musicians today. It’s quality music you can’t define in one sentence.

Jodell’s long-standing fascination with film negatives began when teaching pinhole photography and has since developed into a full exploration of the possibilities. For this exhibition, Jodell presents a world in reverse: luminous darks, light as shadow, foreground and background fluctuating. This shift expands our perception and explores the power, beauty, structure and interconnectedness of all things.

Key West Pottery co-owner and former AIR, Adam Russell debuts his latest body of two and three-dimensional work. Future Ancient springs from Adam’s love of history and indigenous methodology, as it is filtered through a contemporary/postmodern lens. The result is a colorful celebration of island aesthetics and an over-sized and entirely unique take on ceramics.

The first Shoe Burnin’ occurred on a winter’s night; when the firewood ran out, a box of shoes provided the fuel that enabled a group of friends to continue swapping stories late into the night. Today, the tradition continues with the best writers in the South and the best songwriters in Nashville coming together for unique storytelling and musical events.

A full-tilt, cheeky collision of The Producers and A Chorus Line, with a sparkling English script, a few original tunes and beloved Italian oldies from Figaro, Don G and Cosi by that hitmeister of the 1780’s top forty charts, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theater is a New York City production company presenting original works. Laughs probable, applause compulsory.
You’ll enjoy a very now version of Mozart’s comic singspiel Der Schauspieldirektor with fashionista costumes, dueling sopranos, battling baritones, a libidinous backer and one very broke producer. The same old story, brand new.

Miles Davis’ The Birth of the Cool is celebrated for its innovative style and inclusion of numerous notable musicians. As TSKW moves into its new home, we celebrate our own “rebirth of the cool” with an exhibition inviting members to explore ideas of reinvention and improvisation. Participating artists may interpret the concept literally or abstractly, resulting in a wide array of ideas and visuals.
