Class Description

Join Emily in a celebration of creativity as a catalyst for radical acts of connection—even and especially in these disconnecting times!

When you RSVP for this Writing & Tarot Salon, you will be invited to share a question to Ask Emily. You can ask about ANYTHING as long as it’s about writing or writing-adjacent. You might ask about a work-in-progress; about an idea for a poem, story, novel, memoir, or essay; about your next Great Writing Endeavor; about the nuts and bolts of the writing life; about connecting to your intuition; about integrating creativity into your daily life; about getting past Writer’s Block or overcoming Imposter Syndrome; about articulating the complexity of the human experience in the physical environment that is language; about developing a specific character; about a particular plot point; about fleshing out an image; about tapping into your subconscious…

Emily will choreograph the salon around your questions, weaving together creativity and the Tarot, writing and conversation, art- and magic-making. Along the way, Emily will offer practical exercises, writing tips and tricks, Tarot-inspired provocations, and a discussion of the various ways that you can inject life and surprising stakes into your imaginative endeavors—both on and off the page! This salon is designed for poets and witches of all ages, levels, abilities, and genres—as well as folks who don’t yet identify as poets or witches. You will leave with renewed creative purpose, provocations for writing, Tarot-inspired answers to your questions, and the inspiration to spin magic with their words. Bring open eyes, ears, hearts and minds, as well as something to write with and on.

Meet Your Instructor

Emily Carr lives in Florida. She’s passionate about the rediscovery of Mississippi poet besmilr brigham, the sexual politics of meat, the limits of Achilles’ honesty and the problem of Chaucer’s spring, un-posted love letters, cannibal chickens and a ship too late to save the drowning witch.

Carr has been named a finalist in seven national book contests, including the National Poetry Series. Her second collection, 13 Ways of Happily: Books 1 & 2 (Parlor Press 2011), was chosen by Cole Swensen as the winner of the 2009 New Measures Poetry Prize. Her third collection, whosoever has let a minotaur enter them, or a sonnet—, inspired a beer of the same name, now available at the Ale Apothecary.

Her Tarot romance, Name Your Bird Without A Gun, is now available from Spork.
