The day before Christmas Eve 2012, Erin Stover Sickmen moved to Key West to begin her new role as Artistic Director of The Studios of Key West. She is thrilled to be part of the TSKW team and the Key West community. Along for the adventure are her wife Carri (Associate Producer at 20K films—documentary film company based in Chicago), 6 year old daughter Ruby and grumpy cat Cooper.
Erin grew up in and around the midwest, earning her BFA from Illinois State University before moving South for graduate school at James Madison University. After receiving her MFA, she remained in Virginia working with various arts organizations and non-profits, including an opera company, city museum, and as the Exhibition Designer for a children’s museum. She also taught studio art at Randolph College and James Madison University.
For the past 7 years, Erin has served as the Exhibition and Program Manager at Riverviews Artspace, a live/work artspace in Central Virginia which was considered the cornerstone of a major downtown revitalization project. While there, she curated over 75 exhibitions, initiated a Literacy Through Photography course serving at-risk youth, and helped build a well-regarded film program and annual film festival. Erin has also been an avid volunteer, working with National Park Service Search and Rescue teams, The Humane Society, and the American Cancer Society. Erin received the Mayor’s Award of Excellence in 2010 for her community involvement.
Please join us as we offer Erin and her family a warm welcome to Key West community!
