In the heady days of Key West’s renaissance beginning in the 1970’s, the burgeoning art scene and infusion of gay residents and travelers went hand in hand. Artists from Piero Aversa and Craig Biondi to Van Eno and many others guided the island through the Disco era, the AIDS crisis, increasing commercialization and a mainstreaming of gay rights that far outpaced the rest of the country.
A Different Light argues for the significance of a generation of gay artists, and illuminates the Key West we enjoy today.
