Intermediate Improv with ImprovBoston

Join Mike and Deana from ImprovBoston as they return for another year of life-changing improv classes. Be a part of what they have taken to calling “ImprovBoston South” as you learn to accept the gifts you are given, transform “no’s” into “yeses” and gain trust in your own voice both on stage and off. This class will have you on your feet laughing and learning with two of the country’s most sought after improv instructors. We will meet each day, building off the day before, culminating in our new ensemble will take the stage on Saturday night alongside members of the ImprovBoston National Touring Company.

About our instructors:

Mike Descoteaux is the Artistic Director of ImprovBoston where he has directed their National Touring Company, the Family Show, festival casts and independent ensembles. Prior to coming to Boston Mike spent a decade directing, teaching and performing at The Second City in Chicago where created their Music Improv Conservatory program and became the company’s first even Music Department Head. In addition to directing numerous troupes at the Second City Training Center in Chicago, he’s been director for The Playground’s Directors Series and for The Chicago Sketchfest’s Octasketch. Mike’s taught improv from shortform to longform and beginning to advanced for professionals, Fortune 500 CEOs and kids alike. He’s run workshops at festivals around the world, at Northwestern University, Columbia College, the Magnet, Second City, and of course ImprovBoston.

Deana Criess is the Director of ImprovBoston’s National Touring Company and is a cast member of ImrovBoston’s Mainstage, Family Show and Musical Improv Cast. Deana performs and teaches at festivals, theaters, Fortune 500 companies and colleges around the country. Deana’s industry leading workshops have been featured on PBS, NPR, KBS (the Korean Broadcasting System) and in The Boston Globe. Her comedy has been featured on CNN and Slate.com. A veteran of the stage and the classroom, she over 15 years of professional experience with audiences of all ages performing and teaching longform and shortform improvisation as well as sketch writing and stand up comedy. During her years in comedy she has worked with some amazing artists including Dan Castellaneta (The Simpsons), Laura Hall (Whose Line Is It Anyway), Eric Drysdale (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee), Josh Gondelman (Last Week Tonight with John Olliver), Jen Kirkman (Drunk History), Janeane Garofalo, Dave Razowsky (The Second City) and many more. Deana also serves the director of ImprovBoston’s Corporate Training division and the theater’s school-based outreach program.

Mike and Deana have been teaching workshops together for more than 5 years, sharing their passion for comedy with students around the world. Their combined expertise and playful energy result in a class that is as entertaining as it is powerful.
