The basic technique of painting on one side of a piece of glass, to be viewed from the other side, was used for sacral paintings in the Middle Ages, icons of the Byzantine Empire, and then in Renaissance Venice. It lends itself just as easily to gesture painting, cartoon figures and nature studies. Known for his irreverent stained glass paintings, former Resident Artist Joseph Cavalieri returns, loaded with techniques, materials and inspiration.
