Batik on Eggs: Intro to Indonesian Tjanting with Joy Wood

Using wax resist and dyeing on multiple layers, participants create colorful designs on blown out eggs. Indonesian tjanting tools allow you to create intricate designs made of dots and lines as well as cover larger areas with wax. Learn about color mixing, direct dyeing, vat dyeing and waxing on fabric. Examples of batik from Indonesia are shown to illustrate a range of design styles and techniques. Wood also demos techniques for waxing on fabric.
